AnnotationSince the introduction of the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF), work is being commissioned to evaluate its impact. The author reviews two such articles in Managing Community Care (vol 10, no 6, 2002): Granville and Bowers examine the lessons from working with Standard 8, "Promoting health and active life in older age", while implementation of the NSF at local level is considered by David McNally et al. Other research reviewed impinges on other older age policies in the UK: ethnicity and caregiving from a US perspective; diabetes (covered by its own NSF); care for older relatives; and the role of grandparents. Research from HelpAge International, "A generation in transition: older people's situation and civil society's response in East and Central Europe" illustrates the lack of basic services in countries in that region since the changes to their economic structures.
