Annotation | The chances of becoming an informal carer are increasing for everybody in society, underlining the need for better recognition and improvement of support for all carers. Two reports published in 2001 are reviewed. The first, "It could be you", from Carers UK, focuses on the likelihood of each of us becoming a family carer. The second, "Caring in later life: reviewing the role of older carers", from Help the Aged, examines the experiences and needs of carers aged 60+. Points for practice are drawn out from each review, and attention is drawn to the NHS Plan, which plans for 50,000 more people to remain in their own homes rather than in residential care. (RH). |
