Annotation | A new initiative to support carers in the United States mirrors the National Carers Strategy in the UK. Research from the US National Family Caregivers Association and the National Alliance for Caregiving and LifePlans Inc points to differences between the US and UK systems, such as the role of insurance in the provision of long-term care. In the UK, carers who also work need more flexible leave entitlements and other arrangements that will enable them to combine paid work with family care. A national debate is needed about how to meet the long-term needs of older people and their carers. (RH). |
