AnnotationEstonia's population constitutes an ageing society. This study is based on the results of questionnaires returned by 811 Estonian older people and 220 social workers of local governments. According to the social workers, the modest incomes of older people and their resulting financial difficulties (keeping one place of residence in order, purchasing social and health care) is a serious problem. At the same time, half of the older people report that their financial status is satisfactory. This implies an ability of Estonian older people to cope, but with few financial resources. It could be explained by the fact that older people now are the generation that survived the hardships of the Second World War. (RH).
