Annotation | The latest enlargement of the European Union (EU) has resulted in much discussion focused on the impact of this change on EU institutions and on EU economics. This issue of the Journal of European Social Policy considers the role of EU governance and institutions in shaping the social dimensions of the enlargement process. Two of the seven articles provide a general view of Eastern European welfare states. Other articles examine social policy in Hungary and the Czech Republic, while the EU's impact on the Spanish and Greek welfare states is considered. Articles refer variously to pensions reform or to the costs of health care. (RH). |
