Annotation | Depression is the most common mental health problem for older people, but can easily be misdiagnosed as dementia because the two diseases share many of the same symptoms. Untreated, depression shortens life, increases health care costs, adds to disability from medical illness, and is the leading cause of suicide in older people. The authors discuss the diagnosis of depression and dementia. (RH). |
