Annotation | A simple cure", a new report from the RNID reports that the one in seven patients who is deaf or hard of hearing has experienced communication failures with healthcare professionals. The prevalence of deafness is much higher in older people: more than 50% of people aged 60+ have some loss of hearing. The author, who is Senior Audiology Specialist at RNID, discusses the survey results and recommendations for communication improvement, for example widening the use of existing technology, such as visual alert displays and loop systems.
