AnnotationThis is the second report about older people based on results from the Scottish Household Survey (SHS). It aims to inform the Scottish Executive's strategy for older people, and to highlight trends in social and demographic characteristics. The report is based on 4 years of SHS data from 1999 to 2002, and also draws on Census 2001 results and findings from research. The minimum age for inclusion in most of the analysis is 50, reflecting the age at which lifestyle and employment patterns start to change significantly. The report comprises statistics accompanied by commentary on the following themes: a population profile; employment and income; volunteering and care-giving; leisure activities; community and neighbourhood; and health and social support.
