Annotation | Current processes and hierarchies need challenging, if the drive towards greater involvement of service users is to be more than rhetoric. A system of negotiated consent can help nurses hear what older people have to say, especially those with mental health problems. The context for this literature review is the author's research into how mental health and illness in old age is perceived in the general hospital setting, and how appropriate services might best be provided.
