Annotation | Why are older people the last to be considered for mental health services? In the first of a four-part series, the author looks at the future of mental health services provision in Britain. She notes the National Service Framework for Mental Health (1999) only applies to services for adults of working age. By contrast, the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) says little on the subject, other than how mental health services should work together on joint protocols and provide integrated services. Evidence for needed improvements comes from investigations such as that by Commission for Health Improvement (CHI) on Rowan Ward, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, and the situation in Hackney at a psychiatric care home.
