Annotation | With an ageing population, old age services can expect an increase in the presentation of cases of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The author reviews the literature regarding PTSD relating to classification, aetiology, demographic features, vulnerability, assessment, clinical management, including psychotherapy and medications, and how these may apply to an older population. Little has been published in this field that directly relates to older people. The adult literature allows insight into understanding how PTSD may present in older people. More research on PTSD with older people would lead to better clinical assessment, management and treatment provision. (RH). |
