Annotation | This Government Bill makes provision for the payment of a one-off lump sum of £100 or £50 to households with occupants who have reached age 70. The Bill also includes a regulation-making power to enable regulations to be made to cater for any future payments to people aged 60 and over, or a subset of that group. The Chancellor of the Exchequer announced the new payment in his Budget Statement on 17 March 2004. The Bill sets out: the entitlement conditions for the one-off payment in 2004; the conditions under which the individual would be disqualified from receiving a payment; the procedures that will be applied when making the payment, and for the payment to be disregarded for social security, tax credits and tax purposes. The Bill, when enacted, extends to England, Scotland and Wales. (RH). |
