Annotation | Medication errors can have serious, even life-threatening consequences, and may put residents at risk of significant harm. This report finds that care homes' compliance with the medication standards varies widely, with examples of good and bad practice: 12% of care homes for older people failed to meet the standard. The report outlines how good practice may be identified, poor practice followed up, and consistency maintained. Appendices include the pharmacy "triggers", developed by NCSC pharmacist inspectors, as a way of identifying unacceptable practice relating to medication. This report, issued under Section 7 of the Care Standards Act 2000, is one of a series looking at specific topics. (RH). |
