AnnotationThis Government Bill establishes two new non-departmental public bodies (NDPB): the Pensions Regulator (to replace Opra); and the Pension Protection Fund (PPF), to provide compensation for members of defined benefit (normally final salary) and hybrid occupational pensions schemes in the event of a scheme's sponsoring employer going insolvent. The other five parts of the Bill cover: scheme funding; planning for retirement; personal and occupational schemes - miscellaneous provisions; state pensions; and miscellaneous and supplementary matters. The Bill, when enacted, extends to England, Scotland and Wales; some provisions also extend to Northern Ireland. (RH).
