AnnotationThis text arises from the working group "Aging and Work" of the inter-governmental organisation, COST as part of COST's Action A13, "Changing Labour Markets, Welfare Policies and Citizenship". It offers an understanding of current trends in population, ageing and older workers' participation in the labour force. It examines the welfare state arrangements in nine European Union (EU) countries - Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the UK, Italy and Spain - plus Hungary, Slovenia and Norway. It considers the "pathways" out of working life, from early retirement and the "early exit culture", to late exit, reintegration of older workers, and active ageing. (RH).
