Annotation | Assistive technology (AT) is an umbrella term for any device or system that allows an individual to perform tasks that would otherwise prove impossible. This research, sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), was carried out by a multidisciplinary team representing building surveyors, rehabilitation engineers, an occupational therapist and social scientists. The research is about people aged 70+, the houses they live in, and the role of assistive technology in enabling them to live as independently as possible in their own homes. The research question considered is, how far, and at what cost, can the housing stock be modified to accommodate the assistive technology that can enable older occupants to remain in their own homes? The focus of the research is on social housing provided by five local authorities and five registered social landlords (RSLs). (RH). |
