Annotation | Interviews were conducted with people connected with 8 care home closures: 10 residents, and 28 relatives and informal carers. A further 7 relatives were recruited to recount experiences of more extreme closure situations. The report discusses types and patterns of relocation, and residents' and relatives' views of good practice with regard to issues such as: notification; information, help and support; finding and choosing a new home; moving; settling residents in the new home; the need for preventing closures; and security of tenure. The report presents an opportunity for policy makers, regulators, councils and providers to reflect on relatives' and residents' experiences in drawing up appropriate guidelines. This study was funded by the Department of Health (DH) as part of a wider study of the causes, processes and consequences of the closure of care homes for older people commissioned from the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU).
