Annotation | Comprehensive, person-centred policies for older people should focus around the concept of "successful ageing" amd "living well in later years". There should also be an emphasis on control and independence. This paper considers definitions of prevention, also inequalities in health and wellbeing in the light of the national action plan. It is based on a presentation to an "expert seminar" held at the Department of Health (DH) in 2003, sponsored by the Association of Directors of Social Services (ADSS), Better Government for Older People (BGOP), Help the Aged, and the Nuffield Institute for Health. The paper also relates to the ADSS's visioning on the future of services for older people, "A Better Tomorrow". (RH). |
