AnnotationWendy Lennon went to Newcastle, New South Wales, to examine hospital discharge of older people in Australia, for the Isabel Schwartz Travel Fellowship. In her proposal for the Fellowship, she identified three areas to investigate: the multi-disciplinary learning unit (MLU) based at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle; the work of Australian aged care and assessment teams (ACATs); and how Australians deal with hospital discharge from a social work perspective. This article outlines the positive and negative aspects of social care for older people in Australia. (RH).
