AnnotationThe new Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) replaces three different inspection and regulation organisations; its primary function will be to promote improvement in social care. MORI Social Research Institute carried out 1,049 interviews with respondents aed 16+ across Great Britain on social care, as part of a MORI Omnibus Survey. Interviews were conducted face-to-face and in homes between 26 February and 2 March 2004. This report shows that people today looking ahead to old age have high expectations of the social care services they might receive, and would also prefer to stay in their own homes: few would choose to live in a residential care home. Powerful support was found for rigorous inspection controls, and for frequent inspection. The survey shows that people looking ahead to their older age want independence and choice, and have high expectations of the social care services they might receive. (RH).
