Annotation | There are many similarities and some differences in the clinical expression of dementia in people who have an intellectual disability (ID). Adults who have Down's syndrome (DS) are particularly vulnerable to developing Alzheimer's disease (AD) neuropathology from age 40+. This article reviews evidence on the prevalence of and risk factors for dementia in people who have DS. It discusses the two main diagnostic or screening instruments: the Dementia Scale for Down Syndrome (DSDS) and the Dementia Questionnaire for persons with Mental Retardation (DMR). (RH). |
