Annotation | The National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) may have set standards for older people's healthcare. However, the author contends that the evidence base for it is lacking, and some of the interventions are ineffective or damaging. The dangers of the NSF becoming "a secular mysticism" are evident in the falls section (Standard 6), where "a parade of incorrect treasured beliefs are trotted out". In this article, the literature base on falls is used to sort the sensible suggestions from the rhetoric. (RH). |
