AnnotationKindred Spirits is a scheme run by Age Concern Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (ACNN) to bring together isolated older people to make new social contacts and share activities. This article follows up developments since those described in PSIGE Newsletter 59, January 1997. A literature search has supported the hypothesis that befriending on its own was of little value. While all participants joined the scheme looking for friendship, the scheme appeared to work because activity provided common interests and a less threatening basis on which to meet. The scheme now covers all of the Nottingham Health District, with a second scheme in Mansfield. (RH).
