AnnotationThe fourteen papers in this issue of Journal of Religious Gerontology aim to contribute to the available resources for the training and practice of faith-based practical disciplines. The first two papers are in honour of Barbara Pittard Payne Stancil, a pioneer in the development of the field of gerontology. The third article attempts to provide a brief overview of some of the basic theological concepts out of which a practical theology might be more developed. Further articles explore aspects such as suffering and pain, reflections on later life, and a sense of fulfilment in retirement years. Lastly, is a consideration of the oldest-old cohort, which is the fastest growing segment of the US older population, and who are often overlooked in relation to the church. (KJ/RH).
