Annotation | Using dementia care mapping (DCM) in care settings brings many challenges, especially in the feedback process. The role model for a mapper must be an outsider but not an "expert". The person must challenge but understand, be experienced in dementia care on a daily basis, but rooted in the belief that changes are always possible. Such a person gives little attention to visions and ideologies, but develops together with the team the very next step with regard to their daily practice, the setting and further training. This article outlines some of the advantages and disadvantages that have been found with DCM in Germany since its introduction there in 1998, focusing on the role of the "trusted stranger". (RH). |
