Annotation | In its super-complaint, which was supported by most members of the Social Policy Ageing Information Network (SPAIN), the Consumers Association (CA) states that it does not believe that the market for care homes is working well. This response from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) addresses the key issues raised by the CA. The OFT proposes to use its powers under the Enterprise Act 2002, to examine the following issues through a market study: the lack of transparent information about prices; top-up fees and additional charges for extras; and price differentials between self-funded and publicly-funded residents. The response also outlines those issues being addressed by other means (by the OFT or by others), and issues not warranting further action. (RH). |
