AnnotationEstablished in 1995, Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health (REACH) is a US multisite research programme sponsored by the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute on Nursing Research. This special section begins with an overview of REACH, followed by reports from its study sites. The Miami site examined the effect of family therapy and technology-based intervention in reducing depression in family caregivers. Research from the Philadelphia site looked at the effects of the Home Environmental Skill-building Program, while the Memphis REACH study examined outcomes of primary care interventions alleviating dementia caregivers' psychological distress. The effects of an automated telephone support system on caregiver burden and anxiety are described, relating to the REACH for TLC (telephone-linked care) study. The impact of two psychosocial interventions on White and African American family caregivers of people with dementia was studied, based in Birmingham, Alabama. Finally, site-specific results are presented from the REACH National Collaborative Study on changes in indices of distress in Latino and Anglo female caregivers of older relatives with dementia.
