AnnotationMusculoskeletal conditions are extremely common and include more than 150 different diseases and syndromes, which are usually associated with pain and loss of function. This volume brings together information gathered at a WHO Scientific Group on the Burden of Musculoskeletal Conditions, which met in Geneva in January 2000 and marked the launch of the Bone and Joint Decade, 2000-2010. In particular, the Group gathered data on the incidence and prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, major limb trauma and spine disorders. Data is organised by world region, gender and age groups. There is indication that musculoskeletal conditions are influenced by social structure and economics, and with the greatest impact in less developed countries. (RH).
