Annotation | In recent years, there has been a growth of research into ageing and work. This report is on the study of job change and how it affects the older UK workforce (those over 50). Its findings are based on data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) Omnibus Survey in Spring 2003. This study added eight questions to the Survey's interview, providing detailed data on 5,402 individuals aged 16+, 31% aged 50-69. CROW presents findings on questions about: number of work changes; reasons for change; the effects and outcomes of change; support for change; usefulness of the support; and expectations of retirement and whether any form of work would be considered after retirement. The aim of the survey was threefold. First, to fill a gap in knowledge about the frequency and nature of work transition in the workforce, particularly among older workers. Second, to provide a base for defining CROW's future research agenda. Lastly, to generate a database of individuals willing to participate in future research. This is the first report of the Centre for Research into the Older Workforce, which works in partnership with the National Institute for Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) and the Pre-Retirement Association (PRA).
