Annotation | This report is the first in a series of five looking at ways to promote the independence and well-being of older people. It discusses what independence means for older people, and the importance of choice and control in their lives. It sets out the issues that older people themselves say have the greatest impact on their ability to live independent lives: housing, social activities, transport, income, information, and health. It gives examples of local communities applying the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) to refocus services. It concludes that new ways of working are required of national and local government and other agencies to engage with older people. (RH). |
