Annotation | From 1 April 2004, the Commission for Social Care Inspection - CSCI, a single independent body, will be responsible for undertaking social care inspections, and will publish an annual report to Parliament on national progress on social care and an analysis of where resources have been used. This single body replaces The National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) which was established by Government through the Care Standards Act 2000 and came into operation on l April 2002; the Social Services Inspectorate and Joint Reviews. In preparation for this transfer to the new organisation, the DH commissioned these three bodies to produce a single report providing a joint commentary on the performance of social services and social care for the year under review.
