Annotation | Both Better Government for Older People (BGOP) and the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) have restated the importance of providing clear, relevant information and advice to older people. A literature search and an examination of local authority websites were key sources of information for a study designed to explore the elements of guidelines for good practice. The authors also examined the websites of three major providers of information and advice to older people: Age Concern (ACE), the Centre for Policy on Ageing (CPA), and Help the Aged (HtA). Older people's views as to what constitutes good quality information and advice were explored in three focus groups. This paper presents findings based on these sources and on limitations in the existing provision of information and advice for older people. It also indicates a strong need for older people to be involved in the development, implementation and monitoring of such services. The authors' report, 'Are you listening? current practice in information, advice and advocacy services for older people' is published on behalf of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) by York Publishing Services.
