Annotation | The various translations of the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale (ADAS) used in 8 European countries were compared, in order to design international harmonised translations and to validate these. Concurrent validity was tested in 283 patients with probable or possible AD. The Nurses Observation Scale for Geriatrics (NOSGER), CAMCOG-R and MMSE were used to assess concordance between cognitive and behavioural measures. Differences between the versions mainly involved object naming, items for verbal memory, and the imagery value of the words selected as targets or distractors. The differences were eliminated by adapting and harmonising the various versions of the ADAS-Cog. The study underlines the need to use harmonised versions of instruments for rating dementia in multinational studies. (RH). |
