Annotation | The predicted demographic growth in numbers of older people, coupled with a reduced informal care support network and the relative reduction in the employed taxable proportion of the population financially contributing to public services, will impact on the level and costs of institutional care in the UK. This review comments on changes in patterns of long-term care in the UK policy, and cites US studies that provide useful comparisons. Geographical variations and variations over time in the provision of institutional care in Northern Ireland are also noted. (RH). |
