Annotation | Although accounts of group work with older people with cognitive impairment have existed since the 1950s, comparatively little empirical work has been undertaken into how support groups can help older people. In this review of innovative practice, the authors focus on the experience of one man who was a participant in an evaluation they undertook of as part of their Dementia Voice Group Psychotherapy Project. The project involved establishing six 10-week long psychotherapy groups for a total of 36 people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia who were living in south-west England. This account provides important insights into one individual's experience of vascular dementia, but also highlights the way in which individual experiences can be influenced through sharing them with others who are in a similar situation.
