Annotation | As councils try to involve users in assessing services, one council has devised a useful way of obtaining genuine feedback. A joint initiative by Monmouthshire Council and Age Concern Gwent aimed to find out how older people access services, and how relevant these services are to their needs. Researchers, all aged 50+, used fictional case studies to familiarise themselves with the sorts of questions they might wish to ask of agencies contacted: public libraries, social services, the local hospital. Such "mystery shopper" exercises are useful not only to those who seek information about services, but the method is also recommended for use by service providers themselves. (RH). |
