AnnotationThe Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) published its first discussion paper 'Raising state pension age: are we ready?' in September 2002. This paper adds to the one year old analysis on raising the state pension age (SPA). It summarises feedback received by the PPI, and concludes that although the UK is not yet ready to raise SPA, it should be kept as a live policy issue as the state pension scheme needs to be reformed. The impact of labour market changes - such as the EU Employment Discrimination Directive - should lead to an increase in the employment of older workers. (RH).
