Annotation | PPI Briefing Notes clarify topical issues in pensions policy. The rate of self-employment in the UK is among the highest in Europe. This briefing presents information on the earnings, pension provision and other savings of the self-employed. While there is no clear evidence that people who have been self-employed have lower total incomes in retirement than those who have been employees, their state pension income could be as much as 15% less than those of employees with the same earnings.
