AnnotationRecent media reports suggest that Scotland's free personal care policy is financially doomed, but a closer look behind the figures reveals a different picture. Scotland's population aged 65+ is forecast to rise by 26% by 2019, and numbers of recipients for each service - including private nursing homes, residential care homes, sheltered housing and local authority home care - is predicted to increase by 26-40%. The £2.5 billion total care costs projected for 2020 might best be used for supporting people in their own homes. (RH).
