KeywordsMental disorder ; Law.
AnnotationThe lack of full information on numbers of older people detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 is highlighted. The aim of this short article is threefold. Firstly, it focuses on the proportion of older people detained under the Act who make applications to tribunals in comparison to other age groups. Secondly, it explores the extent of knowledge of Mental Health Review Tribunals among detained older people. Thirdly, it highlights some of the implications of the current legislation and the proposed reform of the 1983 Act for social work practice with older people. (RH).
