AnnotationLow-income populations are more likely to suffer from serious physical and mental health problems that are exacerbated by limited access to quality health care. This article uses data from the early stages of the ethnographic component of "Welfare, children and families: a three-city study", to examine two questions with regard to "family" health in low-income populations. First, what is the prevalence of physical and mental illness, or co-morbidity, within low-income families? Second, how might "family" health influence the health of its individual members in later life? (RH).
