AnnotationThis set of data for England is published by the Department of Health for the performance indicators associated with the Personal Social Services (PSS) Performance Assessment Framework (PAF). The 50 indicators of the PSS PAF provide a tool for investigating Social Services performance, allowing comparison between councils and over time. Data supplied by each of the 150 councils with social services responsibilities for year ending 31 March 2003 for all 50 indicators. The document contains commentary (rationale for each indicator, social services objective, and full definition) and summary data for each of the indicators. Coloured bar graphs illustrate the performance indicators of each council. The relevant indicators concerning older people cover: unit costs for residential and nursing care and home care; admissions of supported residents; older people helped to live at home; avoidable harm (falls and hypothermia); inspections of residential care; ethnicity of older people receiving assessment; assessments of and provision of service. These indicators will be developed over time to ensure their relevance. (KJ).
