Annotation | This is the first annual report of this body and covers the period from 1 October 2001 to March 2003. The GSCC is the first regulator of the social care workforce in England and was launched in October 2001, under the Care Standards Act 2000. It is a non-departmental public body accountable to Parliament and to the Secretary of State for Health. It reports against the GSCC's first business plan covering the 18 months after its launch, which covers its setting up and achievement of specific targets. It has created a register of social care workers and codes of practice that bind the current million-strong social care workforce. The GSCC has also taken a leading role in developing a new degree in social work. (KJ). |
