Annotation | Relatively little is known about the lives of older women from minority ethnic groups in the UK. Recent (auto)biographical accounts have challenged some of the stereotypes applied to older women and their activities. However, older women from such groups are among those experiencing particularly poor health and low levels of income. Obstacles to having a say can be increased for older women by discrimination and racism. The way in which the Older Women's Lives and Voices (OWLV) study was carried out recognised current attempts in research and policy-making to encourage the involvement of marginalised groups. An exploratory study, the main focus to date has been on the development of the project's participatory methods, assessing them alongside findings on the lives and voices of the older women taking part.
