AnnotationThe purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution towards the further improvement of the services provided. It finds that most people in Surrey are well served, with prospects for future improvement promising. In particular, services for older people have been strengthened, and the range of services to promote independence has been increased. Carers' support is well developed through Action for Carers. Examples of good practice include: carers' breaks; a telecare project in a residential care home, with the aim of supporting independence; and linked joint initiatives to prevent admission to hospital and to assist with discharge. Other than continuing to improve the experience of adult service users, priorities for action identified by the review relate to children's services. (RH).
