AnnotationMonmouthshire became a unitary authority in 1996, and provides a full range of services previously provided by Gwent County Council and Monmouthshire Council. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution towards the further improvement of the services provided. It finds that the authority is serving some people well, and there are promising prospects for improvement. Examples of good practice cited in the review include: the hospital discharge service; and the appointment of two carers assessment workers as part of the Carers Strategy, as one in a range of other initiatives for carers. Priorities for action identified by the review include: using partnerships to deliver integrated services; putting users and carers at the heart of the organisation; developing a consistent range of services across the County that promotes independence; ensuring that eligibility is consistently applied; and strengthening assessment and care management. The report is in English and Welsh. (RH).
