Annotation | This edition of "Health promotion and aging" has several new or revamped chapters, including those on health behaviour, complementary and alternative medicine, mental health, diversity, and public health. The basic premise is that every health professional should be a health educator. The book is also guided by a broad conceptual model, which begins with the importance of collaboration and communication between health professionals and their clients. It is written specifically, though not exclusively for an American audience. Other themes explored are: clinical preventive and screening services; exercise; nutrition; weight management; health education; social support; and community health. The book aims not only to concern research, theory and current issues, but is also practical in its intent. There are checklists, health contracts, assessment tools, resource lists, model programmes, Internet addresses, and discussion questions at the end of each chapter. (RH). |
