Annotation | A national survey explored local authorities' commissioning behaviour towards their external and in-house providers of care services for older people, with particular reference to the impact on the overall delivery of social care. Julian Forder, Martin Knapp, Jeremy Kendall and Tihana Matosevic from the PSSRU, LSE Health and Social Care at the London School of Economics were commissioned by the Department of Health (DH) to carry out this study. They analyse the findings, and offer a snapshot of current practice, which reveals the gap between government aspirations and what is happening on the ground. This summary is also a sequel to the six Evidence briefing papers (published by PSSRU, 1996-2001). (RH). |
