AnnotationIn September 2002, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) held its Ministerial Conference on Ageing in Berlin, at which representatives of 50 member states agreed on the guiding principles for the development of future national policies on ageing. This publication comprises the two documents agreed at the Conference. The Berlin Ministerial Declaration, "A society for all ages in the UNECE Region", responds to the call for implementing the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing 2002. The Regional Implementation Strategy is organised into ten commitments, which emphasise the mainstreaming of ageing policy into various policy fields, and relating to: integration and participation; equitable and sustainable economic growth; social protection systems; labour markets; life-long learning; quality of life; gender equality; and intergenerational and intra-generational solidarity and support to families providing care.
