AnnotationThe Race Relations (Amendment) Act 1990 updates the provisions of the the Race Relations Act 1976, and places a duty on the Housing Corporation as a public body to "eliminate unlawful discrimination", "promote equality of opportunity", and "promote good relations between people of different racial groups" in the housing association sector. This paper examines the contribution of housing associations in meeting the housing needs of black and minority ethnic (BME) households. It charts changes over time and the regional variability in provision, and is based on analysis of CORE (COntinuous REcording) data on housing association lettings and results from the 2001 Census.
